Give Music Today

IMG_6905

On Tuesday November 28th, millions of people across the globe kick off the season of giving by making contributions to their favorite charity and share the spirit of philanthropy on social media. Black Friday and Cyber Monday are the two biggest shopping days of the year and #Giving Tuesday is a movement aimed at giving back to organizations who help those who need it most. Over $170 million has been raised for charitable causes all over the world, but Baltimore still needs your help!

You can support Believe in Music by contributing to our Give Music Today campaign. Every day, we provide unique musical learning experiences for youth and emphasize the importance of self-expression and creative storytelling. Youth learn all aspects of the music production process from songwriting to recording to mixing, mastering, publishing, and marketing. When you make a contribution to Believe in Music, you give the transformative gift of music education. We need your help to expand into additional teaching centers and serve as many students as possible. Please consider donating and Give Music Today!

Your #GivingTuesday contribution will directly support our efforts to provide access to recording equipment and music industry training to hundreds of Baltimore's youth.

You may easily make a contribution at www.paypayal.me/BelieveinMusic or mail a check made out to Believe in Music to: 211 E Lombard St., Ste 162 Baltimore, MD 21202

It is unique and beautiful and you can't mistake it for anywhere else in the world - Baltimore is one hundred percent Baltimore. New song from Melanin Records!

Through a partnership with Baltimore City’s YouthWorks, the Believe in Music program was temporarily transformed into a worksite modeled after our student’s record label!

This summer our students were employed by Melanin Records to work as songwriters, performers, studio engineers, and producers. Our students worked with instructors to create their own instrumentals, record their own podcasts, as well as write and record their own songs. The first three weeks were training weeks, consisting of daily Ableton lessons and guided group recording projects. Students also played rhyming games and workshopped each other’s lyrics. During the last two weeks, students worked on self-guided creative projects and collaborations.

Check out one of our favorite tracks from the kids this summer, "America"
and make sure to stayed tuned with Melanin Records'
blog and instagram pages. Be on the lookout for more creative content from our students!

Summer Program in Full Swing!

We hope you are enjoying your summer as much as we are! These have been an exciting few weeks! First, we want to congratulate Greg Megginson, a recent graduate of the program who we were able to hire as a part-time educator. Greg is an incredibly talented artist and has stepped up in big ways to mentor our younger students. He is excelling at pushing them to improve their skills! We are thrilled to have Greg part of the team!

Through a partnership with the City of Baltimore, Believe in Music is now a YouthWorks work site. As a YouthWorks partner, we provide job opportunities to our youth as they learn how to succeed through various music industry professions. This initiative has allowed us to incorporate management and financial literacy to our curriculum. Our summer program is modeled after Melanin Records with youth employed as rappers and singers, producers, managers, and PR agents. Melanin Records will be releasing an EP at the end of the summer, complete with the songs recorded during the five-week YouthWorks session.

You can keep up with Melanin Records through their new blog here

All computers are outfitted with Ableton Live so several students can mix and master several songs simultaneously and share them online immediately.

Through the generosity of Shoe City and a few other community partners, our recording studio is complete with state-of-the-art equipment!

Congratulations 2017 Graduates

We are so proud to share with you that Believe in Music celebrated the high school graduation of three of our students last week! Running an after school program in West Baltimore comes with many challenges, and having such a resilient group of students makes every obstacle easier to overcome. Dionna, Greg, and Nick have worked so hard during their time with the program and we are thrilled to see all the ways they will continue to accomplish!

Greg will be joining us as an employee this summer. It is an honor to create opportunities for our students that help them achieve their dreams!

Melanin Records Release Show *FREE*

On Friday, February 24th, Believe in Music students will be performing LIVE for the first time in 2017 for their friends, family, and neighbors at The Motor House from 7-9 PM. Admission is FREE and open to the public! There will be several live performances as well as student DJs spinning throughout the night. We want you to come, bring your friends, and celebrate the hard work our students have done this school year!
